What Students Will Learn:

Students will learn about the elements basics of  human survival: shelter, food, fire and water and how to safely source. They will learn a variety of bushcraft skills in an outdoor environment.

How Students Will Learn:

Students will work as a group initially and learn how to complete tasks by discussion of objective, effective communication, negotiation and team work. Both parents and children will have the opportunity to undertake tasks.
Throughout the course parents and children will learn how to take on a leadership role and enhance their effective communication skills.
Members of the group will work with each other and will be taught skills to pass on to other group members to reinforce the need for effective communication.Children and parents will learn how to assess risk and operate in a safe manner. All students will have an understanding of the issues in a survival situation such as fear, tiredness, judgement, group dynamics.
Some theory work will be involved.

Outcomes For Students:

At the end of the course all students who have attended the sessions will have the opportunity to be assessed on their basic skills and will receive a competency certificate if they have a successful assessment.

Students should achieve:

An understanding of basic survival needs.
An understanding of potential risk and managing safety A greater ability to work in a team A greater ability to undertake tasks under time restraints.
An understanding of the psychology of negotiation.
The ability to take on an effective leadership role.
A better understanding of what is effective communication.
Parents will learn how to support their children in the learning process and gauge progress.
Children will see parents learning and understand that education is a life long process and does not stop when you leave school or reach a certain age.
An interest in the outdoors and nature and the need to use sustainable methods of living.
An understanding that pursuits such as bushcraft can impart skills that will be useful in many areas of life on an almost daily basis.
An understanding that an interest in nature, the outdoors and bushcraft can be an avenue to a career.

Additional Information

Students should attend in old clothes. Clothing should be appropriate for the weather conditions as the sessions will be outdoors. Suitable strong footwear will be necessary, either boots or heavy duty trainers. Long hair must be tied back. Clothing with tassles or fringes must not be worn. Students must bring any medication with them they may need to take during the day. All students will need to be able to attend both sessions.  Please bring a packed lunch with you and a bottle of water.
